Yes Scotland, the campaign group for an independent Scotland contacted me in November 2012, enquiring if I had a night photo suitable for their official Christmas card. Rummaging through my files I found a few images I thought might convey a suitably festive mood i.e. snow!
This is the original version of the one they opted for:
After a bit of (spin?) doctoring, which consisted of adding the ‘Yes’ campaign logo subtly written in the stars and a little tidy up around the window frame to eliminate the ragged pieces of damp-proof membrane, here’s the image as it appeared on their Christmas card:
I shot the photo on the site of a couple of newly built houses, overlooking Scarista golf course.
Date: December 22nd 2010.
Pipework for the underfloor heating was in place but covered in snow – the windows had yet to be fitted. My idea was to add some warmth by shining a red LED light on the timber frame construction during the 3 minute exposure.
The house, now named Corncrake Cottage, has since been completed and is rented out as holiday accommodation.
One week before Christmas the story appeared in a few of the Scottish newspapers:
Slightly bigger spread in the Press and Journal…
Some of my other winter pics that didn’t make the cut:
With one more Christmas to go before the referendum takes place in October 2014, the reeeally BIG question is…..
Can I can flog one of my winter photos to the ‘Better Together‘ campaign for Christmas 2013?
